Bedwetting

Do boys take longer than girls to night train? I can't remember...

Dmitri is still wetting the bed every night. And in spite of a Pull-Up, he ends up leaking at least twice a week, which means more laundry. I can't wait to stop buying Pull-Ups - and changing sheets.

Anyone have any ideas?

We tried putting him in underwear and letting him sleep on an airmattress on the floor (easier to clean up) but that didn't work. He just wet the bed anyway, even after several nights of giving it a try.

He's getting to the point of being embarrassed about it, although we're careful to be encouraging and supportive. He wants to stop. I wish I knew how we could help!

I don't have any good ideas, we never dealt with that. Sorry.

What time do you have dinner? and does he have a snack at night? Cut back the liquids a bit earlier in the day and try not to worry to much. He will outgrow the bed wetting as his bladder matures

Well, we are having a similar issue and we have resorted to waking him up in the middle of the night to pee. Tonight will be the first night so I'll let you know how it goes....
BTW, we've never met, but I am in Lansing and we've got similar things going on...

When our son was newly trained we had to wake him up at midnight for one last trip to the toilet to make sure he'd stay dry for the night.

Now that he's older we make sure he goes "one last time" just before bed. That really helps.

I think it is very child specific. I've not had trouble with either of my boys, but my girl at nearly age eight still has issues if we don't wake her at least once to pee in the night. It can be any number of reasons, but I'm told it's a problem that eventually gets better over time; my pediatrician assures me each time I see her that there is nothing to worry about.

That being said, here's some things we do that do help:

1. shower curtain as a bed liner. Put it between the mattress pad and the mattress to save your mattress. We learned that lesson after many smelly accidents on our old mattress.

2. less liquids at dinner. This really does help. If we have soup for dinner, forget about it.

3. the wake up pee. We used to have to do this twice, once at 9:30 (she goes to bed between 7:30 and 8) and once at 11. Lately we can often get by without the second one. I think she's starting to grow out of it, slowly. I hope!

My cousin's boy was nine before he stopped. It's completely a maturity thing...do what you can to minimize the problems around it and just ride it out. I know four parents just in my friends who are dealing with this same issue...no one talks about it, but it's a lot more prevalent than you think.

After reading your blog posting, we would like to suggest another point of view. Diapers only keep the bed dry and often prolong suffering. They do not serve to treat the underlying cause, the deep sleep disorder. We work with the Enuresis Treatment Center. For 32 years, the Enuresis Treatment Center has successfully treated thousands of people from around the world who thought there was no hope for ending bedwetting. Bedwetting, or enuresis, is actually caused by deep sleep, not to be mistaken for healthy sleep. This deep sleep causes a disconnect between the brain and bladder, and the bedwetting occurs as a result. The Enuresis Treatment Center has put together an informative guide to understanding and treating bedwetting. This free bedwetting guide is available to download atwww.freebedwettingguide.com.

When I looked to buy a mattress, I couldn’t decide whether to buy a regular mattress or go for a Memory Foam Mattress. In the end I decide on the memory foam and went looking for a Cheap memory Foam Mattress I found one and it was the best decision of my life! I highly recommend them! Did my back wonders too!
